A Tennis Tournament in Brazil

This past spring, seven young athletes from Push The Rock Brazil competed in a tennis tournament in the city of Paulínia and demonstrated Christ’s character to all participants.

PTR Brazil staff dreamed for years about forming an AECA tennis competition team, and God made it possible. Our team competed at the regional level and achieved victories in the men’s and women’s categories.

PTR’s team made it far and demonstrated stamina but ultimately lost to the team from São João da Boa Vista in a tight competition.

The young players trained hard, which was clearly shown in their performance at the tournament. They represented their city of Atibaia well, and, most importantly, they represented Jesus well by the way they acted.

Thiago Goffert, Co-Director of Push The Rock Brazil, commented:

In a competitive environment where pressure and frustration can often lead to inappropriate behavior, our students stood out for their exemplary conduct. There was no room for fights, name-calling, or throwing racquets. In each challenge, they showed respect for their opponents, the referees, and the rules of the game. This conduct, which reflects Jesus’s teachings on loving your neighbor and self-control, was noticed and praised by other tournament participants and organizers. Our athletes not only played tennis; they lived the Gospel at every point, showing that being a disciple of Christ is manifested in all areas of our lives, including sport.

Watching the display of Christ’s character was encouraging to our staff members who have been pouring into these young people on a consistent basis and teaching them to live and play for Jesus.

The tournament provided an avenue for improvement of tennis skills, team-building, and character development. We look forward to future tournaments and opportunities to use the power of sports to impact the world for Jesus.

We appreciate all your prayers and support for PTR’s global ministry.
