Kingdom Impact in CR
In early May, PTR Costa Rica held a 3×3 basketball tournament in the community of Pavas, which gave us the opportunity to share God’s word to all the players. We hosted the tournament in collaboration with Jean Carlo Matute, a former PTR basketball program participant.
A 3×3 tournament is a short tournament where each team has three players and is played on half court. A total of 24 players (8 teams) participated in the tournament. Teams continue to advance in the tournament as they win each game until a champion is crowned.
In addition to playing competitive basketball, participants also had the opportunity to learn about teamwork. We emphasized the important role that each member of the team plays. We shared from the Bible about the importance of working together despite differences.
We are privileged to impact the community of Pavas for Jesus through sports!
Given the successful collaboration, we are now talking with Jean Carlo about joining the PTR Costa Rica team to lead the basketball program in Pavas. Read more about Jean Carlo’s story below!
Jean Carlo Matute’s Story
“Jean Carlo was a member of a PTR Basketball program in 2019. When the pandemic arrived and we had to close the program, Jean Carlo decided some time later to create a basketball team with the same objectives that we pursued at PTR. After a while we contacted him and he told us everything he was doing with the team and the young people of the community. From that moment on, we started working together on some events such as the 3×3 tournament. We want Jean Carlo and the team to be part of the PTR family and be in charge of the basketball program in the Pavas community. We want to support him so that young people in the program can grow in their spiritual life and learn about Jesus.“

“Two are better than one, Because they have a good reward for their labor.
For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, For he has no one to help him up.”
