What is your best Disc Golf Memory?

I aced hole 2 at Ship Rock Disc Golf Course the first time I played there.  What made it special was that my whole family was there.  I was not sure how to throw the shot.  I debated out loud about what line to throw.  When it was half way there, my wife said, “I guess that is how you throw it.”  It smashed chains and stuck.  All of my kids were cheering.  Elijah jumped on me and shook me as he screamed with excitement.  It was an amazing moment with the whole family.

Why did you want to join Eagles Wings?

When I heard that Eagles Wings was being formed, I was excited.  God was pairing ministry with a sport that I love.  I was volunteering with Eagles Wings right away.   As a teacher I planned to retire fairly early and then work in ministry, but God had other plans.   I felt like God was telling me that I should not wait until retirement.  Entering full time ministry would mean a pay cut for me, my wife, and 4 kids.  I prayed about it for a few weeks without saying a word.  Then my wife looked at me and said, “I think God wants you to work full-time for Eagles Wings.”  That was the confirmation that I needed.

What is your favorite disc in your bag and why?

My current favorite disc is the Evidence by Dynamic Discs.  It is an understable midrange that I can start on a hyzer and pop up to flat or flip it more if I want it to go right.  It is easy to throw and is great for tight wooded shots.

What is your favorite shot to throw during a round and why?

I know that I am in the minority on this, but I like to throw anhyzer putts.  When I need to putt around a tree, I almost always choose to go with the anhyzer.  I feel like I have more control and touch with the disc than if I threw a hyzer.

What is the next course on your disc golf bucket list?

I am very excited to get up to Smugglers Notch this summer and play Brewster Ridge and Fox Run.  I will be there for the USJDGC because Eagles Wings is helping to run the event, and my son, Elijah, will be playing in it.  I hope to find the time while I am there to play the courses for myself, but even if I don’t, it will be exciting to watch Elijah play.

What other hobbies do you have or what other sports do you participate in?

I love playing board games.  There are many great modern board games like: Ticket to Ride, King of Tokyo, Pandemic, and many more.  We have a large collection of board games.  During the winter, when we don’t get to play as much disc golf, our family plays a lot of board games.
