What is your best Disc Golf Memory?
I have two memories that instantly pop into my head and my favorite disc golf memories. First, my time as an intern at the Professional Disc Golf Association was extremely enjoyable, but more importantly the day that 6th graders came to our facility on a field trip. I had the pleasure of teaching disc golf to these kids for the very first time in their life! Teaching kids how to throw a disc and then joining them out on the course was so excited, especially when all of the girls were throwing much better than the young boys! As we went out on the course together, I’m really not sure who was smiling more; the kids or myself. My other favorite memory is winning the Advanced division at Throw Down the Mountain disc golf tournament in Brooksville, FL in 2017. This is one of the best tournaments in the country with such a unique landscape located at an old quarry in the “hills” of Florida. Although I finished on the signature “mountain” hole with a double bogey (mostly because of nerves), I still squeaked out the victory by one stroke and won my first B tier tournament.
Why did you want to join Eagles Wings?
I wanted to join Eagles Wings because the biggest passion in my life has been centered around God, and once I started playing disc golf, I saw the need for God to be involved in the disc golf community. Disc golf can be one of the best opportunities a person gets to tell someone about the love of God, and I want to help enable others Christians to spread the love out on the course, and also share the Gospel with people on the course.
What is your favorite disc in your bag and why?
My favorite disc in my bag is my penguin Destroyer. Not only does it have a penguin stamp, but it is a pre-flight number Destroyer which is also my favorite driver to throw. Penguins have always been my favorite animal and when I had the opportunity to get a disc with a penguin stamp on it, I was all over it. I tried very hard to purchase it from the seller, but he insisted in raffling the disc off on Facebook. I decided to buy one ticket and I won! The next day, I put it right into my bag and it hasn’t left since.
*UPDATE- It was a sad day in Augusta, Georgia in October of 2018 when this destroyer was lost at Patriot’s Park.
What is your favorite shot to throw during a round and why?
By far my favorite shot to throw is a distance spike hyzer. I love to throw up and over trees on a big hyzer and put it near the target. It is definitely the highest percentage shot in my bag and the most fun shot for me to throw.
What is the next course on your disc golf bucket list?
One of my bucket list goals is to play 1000 different courses in my life, and I am nearing 200 courses, so the next course is probably any course I haven’t yet played.
What other hobbies do you have or what other sports do you participate in?
I enjoy being outdoors, whether that is hiking, kayaking, or disc golfing, being outdoors in warm weather always makes me happy. I absolutely love spending time with my wife and two little girls. I am also a very big football and baseball fan, cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, New Orleans Saints, and the Cincinnati Reds. Lastly, I am a health coach as well with a daily podcast that you can listen to here.
