Fantastic Friday

Each week when Friday rolls around, the children in Macha know they can expect a different routine from the normal Monday-Thursday program.

About a year ago we discussed ideas of how to create a program that encouraged children to work as a team with kids they wouldn’t otherwise interact with much.  Often our activities are geared toward boys or girls specifically, or to particular age groups – and that has its place.  However, for Fridays we wanted things to be different.  We wanted to come up with an idea that would challenge the ‘separatist’ mindset while encouraging the children to work together, to support each other, no matter their differences in age, size, or gender.

Hence Fantastic Friday began.

Since we started this weekly program, we’ve seen the children embrace the idea and look forward to Fridays. They know that each week a different coach organizes the activities and competitions, as well as the Chapel lesson.  Our staff gets creative and enjoys the day almost as much as the children.  We do Bible quizzing, hold relay races, play Russian netball, have high jump and discus, go on scavenger hunts, have trash collection competitions…the list goes on and on.  If it promotes unity and team work in some way, it is fair game!

By 3PM on Friday, children are lining up ready for the afternoon to begin.  It is a joy to see the energy they bring each week, always hoping this will be the week their team will be announced winners!  After Chapel, the kids are separated into four different teams led by one of the coaches. They enjoy the day’s competitions and then we gather the children together again, this time for the announcement of who has won the day.

So as the sun sets and the dust settles each Friday here, you will hear a loud cheer rise up in Macha as the day’s results are revealed.  Members of the winning team rally around their coach, heading home amidst cheers and high fives, waiting for next week’s edition of Fantastic Friday.

Our hope is that through this weekly effort, we can continue to hammer home the importance of working together and valuing each other’s specific abilities and gifts, of encouraging one another and playing fairly.  That big and small-younger and older-boys and girls can play together and complement each other-that teamwork makes the dreamwork and the Body of Christ is vast.

While we know that Fantastic Fridays consists of fun and games, we also know these activities have huge potential in helping our young people learn and understand bigger life lessons, and for us, that is FANTASTIC.

Eagles Wings to Help Launch Premier Juniors Events in 2018

At Eagles Wings Disc Golf, one of our primary focus areas from our inception has been juniors.  The Professional Disc Golf Association classifies juniors as 18 and under. This is a demographic in the sport that is just now starting to gain serious traction.  In both Michigan and Pennsylvania we will continue to offer clinics, family nights, leagues, and tournaments. With the success of our Regional Championships among other events, we have been invited to partner in some pretty incredible initiatives for 2018.

In 2018 juniors in the sport will have the opportunity to participate in both a Junior World Championship and a Junior United States Championship.  These events have been offered for men and women in the sport for many years, but this will be the first time they are both offered for juniors as well.  Eagles Wings will have the opportunity to participate in both the planning and execution of these events. We could not be more excited about the opportunity.  We will be on site for both events and hope to bring our chapel program as well.  We encourage you to mark them both on your calendar now!

The United States Junior Disc Golf Championship (USJDGC) is being headed up by Kids Disc Golf.  It will be held August 3rd through the 5th at Smuggler’s Notch, Vermont. This inaugural event was just announced this past weekend and you can find all the details here:

The Junior World Championships is being headed up by Dynamic Discs. It will be held in Emporia, Kansas July 10th through the 14th. This is the first of three years that Dynamic Discs will be hosting this event. More information will be available soon on the PDGA site:

We are grateful for opportunity to be part of these historical events and look forward to all that 2018 will hold for Eagles Wings Disc Golf!

2017 Eagles Wings Chapel Report

One of the first programs that Eagles Wings Disc Golf started was our chapel ministry. All of us who are part of this ministry spent significant time away from our home church body and knew that we would benefit from connecting with the larger body of Christ. This past year has marked a significant growth in our chapel ministry on many levels. Our goal to start the year was to make sure there was a chapel at all of the biggest tournaments that would be held in the United States. While we did not quite accomplish this goal we were very close, and believe we are in a great place to accomplish this for 2018!  In addition to the big events we were able to grow our local presence in the regions we operate and look forward to continuing to grow locally as we grow nationally.

One of the biggest challenges for the chapel ministry is that the tournaments take place all over the country and our team is fairly small.  With this challenge in mind we made a concerted effort to grow our network of pastors and Christian disc golfers who could assist us in running chapels even if we did not have a team member on site.  We are thrilled at the people we met this year and relationships we built.  In 2017 we had 13 different people share the message and 14 different worship leaders lead us in times of worship and praise.  In all we were able to run over 20 chapels in 15 different states thanks to the connections and relationships God orchestrated this year.

Our whole team is encouraged by the growth and the number of people that we are connected to because of our chapel services. We are already beginning to plan for next year and can’t wait to see what the Lord has for us. As the year came to a close it was encouraging to see chapel “regulars” and to see the disc golf church body beginning to take shape.  In 2018 we are hopeful to be able to create times of spiritual growth and connection through fellowship. We are hopeful to be able to be at even more events than last year, and we are hopefully to find more people who are interested in helping us further the Kingdom of God through this program.

If you attended one of our chapels and would like to provide some feedback for us, please do so here. Also, if you would like to get involved and help us run chapel services, let us know by filling out the following form.

A Season Ends at the USDGC for Eagles Wings

The United States Disc Golf Championship is one of, if not the most prestigious disc golf tournaments in the world.  The tournament takes place on Winthrop University’s campus and is hosted by Innova Champion Disc, a company that has been a great supporter of Eagles Wings from day one.  This was our third year sending a part of our team to do a chapel and open the event in prayer at the opening ceremony.

For Eagles Wings this event marked the close of what has been a busy season of ministry!  This was the last major disc golf event we will be attending and hosting a chapel for 2017, and it was a great way to close out the year.  Having the opportunity to pray for the competitors, staff and the event itself at the opening ceremony is a great honor, and something we are grateful to be part of.  After the close of the opening ceremony we headed to the host hotel to offer our last chapel of the year.  We had a great mix of players, staff, Innova employees, and local ministry leaders which made for a great night.  On top of that former NFL player, Pete Metzelaars shared the message with us and provided a great challenge for the group.

Now that the offseason is upon us we are tasked with evaluating our chapel ministry and planning for 2018.  We are so grateful for the many people that worked together to allow us to expand the ministry this year, and look forward to greater things next year!  Stay tuned for a recap of our chapel ministry that we will publish next week!
