Eagles Wings International Impact

Eagles Wings Disc Golf has now traveled to both Zambia and Costa Rica to build disc golf courses. Those of us who love disc golf are not surprised when we hear stories from our missionaries in these countries of how much people like disc golf. The courses we have built continue to make an impact and allow these local missionaries to reach out to the local community. Even though most of our programs are focused on kids, these courses have made an impact on adults as well. As the current year comes to a close, we wanted to take some time to share a few stories from our missionaries in these countries.

Zambia

Eric Thuma, our local missionary in Zambia, shared the following story with us.

“It has been over a year and a half since disc golf was introduced in Macha, Zambia and we are thrilled that the game continues to be a hit here with our children and staff. We want to highlight one of our staff in particular, Wilborn. Wilborn is one of our night watchmen who ensures the well being of our property from 6:00pm to 6:00am. However, he has quickly become one of our local disc golf pros! Even after his 12 hour night shifts, he can be found at the disc golf course, almost daily, honing his skills. In fact, just last week he posted an ace on hole number 2! Beyond his desire to keep improving, he often reports to work early in order to rally some boys to accompany him and play a round before his shift starts.

It is encouraging for us to see our staff take ownership and invest in a sport that we did not know anything about over a year ago. We continue to be grateful for this ‘new’ outlet of fun and fellowship.”

Costa Rica

Nattie and David, our missionaries in Costa Rica, recently shared the following story with us.

“Patri Pringle, a pre-school teacher in Costa Rica, has been using disc golf as a fun new activity for the children in her class. Recently, Patri held a Disc Golf mini tournament for the kids in her class and the response was one of great excitement!

Lucas and Lucio, the winners of the tournament, were beyond excited to not only win, but to also receive a mini disc as their prize. In addition to this event, in Costa Rica, we have also run practices in La Villa Olimpica and are planning to do one practice per month. We are grateful to have the chance to use Disc Golf as a ministry avenue in Costa Rica!”

The Eagles Wings Junior Grant is Back in 2018

In 2017 we started the Eagles Wings Disc Golf Junior Grant program with the help of some generous donors and partners. We were blessed to end up with four amazing Junior disc golfers who were striving to make a difference in their local disc golf communities. Through the year our winners continued to impress on and off the course!

With this in mind, Eagles Wings Disc Golf is ready to bring back out Junior Grant program for the 2018 disc golf season. We plan to expand the program to include 6 deserving Junior Disc Golfers this year. We are working to build partnerships that will offer our grant winners an even bigger prize pack which will again be centered around a paid entry to either the 2018 PDGA Junior Disc Golf World Championships, or the 2018 Unites States Junior Disc Golf Championship. Eagles Wings Disc Golf will be actively involved with both of these events and we are excited to make sure our 6 winners will enjoy the experience with us.

The application will again be based on how players are investing in the disc golf community around them, so if you are a junior disc golfer we encourage you to start planning the service project(s) you will do in 2018. How can you bless the local disc golf community? Who can you help do the same? Who can you teach to play disc golf? We are looking forward to hearing from you and reading about your plans to make a difference. We expect that our application will go live on Tuesday January 2nd, 2018.

Eagles Wings One Year Bible Challenge

It is the time of year when we gather with family and friends to celebrate the birth of Christ and the beginning of a new year. Often times we spend time reflecting on the previous year and make plans for the next year. In 2018, we are going to challenge all of the friends of Eagles Wings Disc Golf to join us in reading the bible with us every day for a year.

We began our Chapel ministry with the hopes of connecting believers to a body of Christ as they were away from the church building on a Sunday to play disc golf. Chapels have also served as a great way to invite people to consider Jesus as the way, the truth and the life. The challenge to read the bible with us comes out of our deep desire to grow closer to God through the reading of His word.

Will you join us this year? Will you make the commitment to read through the bible in a year? We have found a reading plan that will guide us to read through the bible over the span of a single year. To get more information and to stay connected to others that are making the same commitment as you, please join our Facebook group. And as always, stay connected with Eagles Wings Disc Golf through our website, social media and by participating and helping out at our events.

Coaches Complete Training Course

Recently we had the opportunity to send our football(soccer) coaches for an official course held by the Football Association of Zambia.  The course is the first level of training offered here and it serves as the basic requirements for anyone coaching in the community.

For that reason, we are thrilled to announce that five of our coaches now hold their FAZ “D” Level Coaching Certificates after successfully completing the course and meeting the requirements, including the exam.

We are grateful for such opportunities and we continue to be encouraged by such growth within our organization and the development by our staff.  The course also gave our staff a time to network and connect with a hundred other like-minded individuals from all over the country, energizing them with encouragement and opportunities for partnership in other regions.

Eagles Wings Store Coming This Week!

We are often asked where someone can buy an Eagles Wings shirt. Regrettably, we have not had a good answer to this question until now. This Wednesday we plan to go live with a store that will have several different apparel options.

For this project we have partnered with our friends at Paragon Disc Golf.  Paragon has been a great supporter of our programs through sponsorship, and we are excited to work with them on this project as well.  The store will not only be the best way to get our logo gear, it will also support the programs and ministry of Eagles Wings.

We plan to start small with a few different options, but will be offering both ladies and youth sizes.  Our hope is to be able to offer more variety in time, and we plan to add hats in the near future.  To this point, the support of Eagles Wings Disc Golf has come only through donations from individuals and the support of generous companies in the disc golf community. The Eagles Wings store will allow us one more place to raise funds to do the important work that has been set in front of us.

Stay tuned to the home page on Wednesday as that will be the best place to access the store.  Thanks in advance for your support!
