Czech Republic Update #5

July 11 & July 12, 2012

It’s hard to believe that tomorrow is our last day of camp already. Things are going very well and the week has just flown by. Here’s a recap of what’s been going on the past two days.

Wednesday’s at camp have a tendency to be challenging. It’s the middle of the week, and both the kids and coaches are tired and sore. Yesterday was no different. However, everyone was able to drum up enough energy to make it a successful and enjoyable day. Other than a brief shower before lunch, the weather was amazing again (upper 70s and mostly sunny).  Even though the skill levels of the kids varies, they all seem to be learning and improving their skills. Also on Wednesday, one of the coaches shared his testimony and finished with a Gospel presentation. The message was presented in a simple, succinct manner and the kids seemed very attentive. Please pray for the kids who heard that very important message.

After camp, two of our team members were invited to dinner with a camper and his family. It was a great time of fellowship and an opportunity to build on a relationship outside of camp. The rest of the team had dinner back at the apartment. We ended the evening with Team Time. We talked about being designed for God’s family and how we can build of the body of Christ.

Thursday was another great day at camp. The kids continued to improve on their skills and it seemed like they had a great time doing it. The weather was a bit cooler and we had some rain in the afternoon. Fortunately, it was a short period of rain and we were able to go into the batting cages so we didn’t get too wet. One of the fun things we did on Thursday was a baseball signing. Every kid, coach, translator, etc. had the opportunity to sign baseballs. At the end of camp on Friday, we will give each kid a ball signed by everyone at camp. It will be a neat way to remember the amazing week we’ve had.

After camp, we had the opportunity to go on a boat ride in the Vltava River, which runs through Prague.  The father of one of our campers is a captain of one of these tour boats and he offered to have give the team a ride. It was a very generous offer. The camper and the rest of his family came with us also. We saw some great sights and learned some interesting Czech history.  It was also a great time to fellowship with the camper and his family. After the boat ride, we went to a Czech restaurant and had some traditional Czech food. It was a great evening and very enjoyable for our entire team.

One more day! We our excited go to camp on Friday, even though it is our last day with these kids. I’m sure it will be tough to say goodbye but we will never forget these kids. We are excited to see what God has in store for us on Friday.

In Christ,

The team
