Italy – End of Imola Camp Week

Our two weeks have come to an end. It is always bittersweet when that happens, but we praise the Lord for all that happened over the past 10 days of basketball clinics. The kids in each of the three locations were attentive to the basketball and the spiritual lessons that we shared with them.

Yesterday’s clinic ended well with our having to say Good-bye to the Udine kids. They made the 3-hour trek back to Udine last night before our game. The kids played hard all week and we were able to present each one with a t-shirt and their own personal Bible. We are hoping and praying that they crack them open at some point and encounter Jesus.

We played our second game in two nights and played well. It was not really a close game, but it was a good way to end the string of games we played over these two weeks. The other team was very friendly and it was good to continue to build relationships with people here, introducing them to the missionaries and ultimately to Christ. It was another late night as we had our team devotions and people were very excited about our last day of camp. Not sure anyone was asleep before 1:30, but that is how it goes at the end of the trip … adrenaline.

The Forli team headed out at 7:15 again and had to beat the train strike that started at 8 am. We made it to Forli alright and finished off the camp there well. We stayed there until close to 2:30 pm before being picked up because of the strike. We made it back in time to finish up the Imola camp in the afternoon. Because the Udine kids left, we had 8 kids at camp today. It was a lot of fun competitions and we even closed camp out today with a rousing game of indoor soccer. We praise the Lord for the relationships that have been built with the kids and their families. The missionary spent lots of time with the parents throughout the week, but especially today as they came to close out the camp with their kids. We continue to pray that the seeds that have been planted will be watered and that these kids and their families will come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ!

Tonight we have another game in the 3-on-3 tournament and then we will pack up before heading to Bologna in the morning. After sleeping in, we will head into the city for the day before heading back to Mestre, where we will fly out on Sunday morning. This will most likely be the last update before we arrive back in the US. Please be praying for the team as we close out our time here. It has been a tremendous two weeks together and we look forward to hearing how the Lord works in these areas after we leave.

Half the team flies out Sunday in the early morning and the other half in the afternoon. We will meet in London and fly back to the US together, arriving back home at 10 pm Sunday night.

Buna sera.
