Tenerife Welch Team Update #2 April 4, 2017

Monday, April 4

Today was our first day of camps.  It was a GREAT one.  God is at work here and we are blessed to be part of what He is doing.  This morning we headed to a school where we provided the students with their gym class.  We used their outdoor court; 2 hoops and open space, and an indoor soccer court.  We saw each group for about 50 minutes.  The students rotated though 4 stations: Defense/Sportsmanship, Dribbling, Shooting, and Passing.  Because there were times we had 60 kids, we had 2 of each station.  This made having translators at each basket difficult, but the team did a great job of picking up key words and acting out the rest 🙂

While we worked with the kids, their teachers walked around and watched each station.  One teacher said that his group has not been motivated to do anything for the past month, but today he saw them trying and working hard!  We were at the school from 9-2 and had the opportunity to interact with 159 students.

At 2:15pm we headed back to the Bomberos for lunch.  We had an amazing meal of arroz con pollo (chicken and rice).  After lunch, we met together for team time.  Prior to the trip, we each studied 1 John individually and so now we study it together during team time.  Two teammate also shared their testimonies.  It’s always amazing to hear how God got ahold of someone and how He is growing them.

At 4:45pm, we headed to a local gym for a 2 1/2 hour clinic.  We ran the afternoon almost the same way we did in the morning.  Push The Rock has been investing in some of these kids for the past 4 years, and so it was great to see them again.  This afternoon we were able to interact with 63 kids.  After the clinic, we had a friendly, mixed match with 2 girls from the club.  At about 9:00pm, we returned to the Bomberos for dinner and rest.

Thank you for following our journey and for praying for us.

Buenas Noches!

Kim Schlonecker, for the team.
