Czech Republic Update #3
The last two days have flown by. We’re having a great time here running baseball camp. Here’s a recap of what’s been going on.
Tuesday began with us having breakfast at our host home and then heading off to the baseball fields. It was a beautiful sunny morning. The Lord has blessed us so far with beautiful weather for our time here. Tuesday was a bit warmer than Monday but overall a beautiful day.
The skill focus at camp on Tuesday was hitting. The kids always love to hit the ball so we knew it would be an enjoyable day for them. In the morning, we went through several drills to help the kids improve their hitting. We finished up the morning with a scrimmage for both the older kids and the younger kids. The kids do a great job working hard at the drills but we know that they enjoy it most when they can put those skills to work during a scrimmage or game.
After lunch, we were back out working on more hitting drills. It got quite warm in the afternoon so we needed to take some breaks to let the kids rest. Overall the kids did a great job dealing with the heat and they continued to work hard. We have a wide range of ages and skill levels at the camp but it’s great to see the beginners learn the game and the veteran players fine tune their abilities.
Also during the day we had a coach share a sportsmanship and another coach shared his testimony. Our prayer is that the kids are really listening to what we have to say and that they take it to heart.
After camp, we headed back to our host home to clean up for dinner. We had the opportunity to have dinner with a young man who was a translator at our camp a few years ago. It was a great time of fellowship together.
We finished our evening with Team Time. We were studying Paul and what made him a Game Changer. It’s great to be able to sit down as a team and study God’s word together. After Team Time, we headed to bed.
Today was another beautiful sunny day. Although, it was much warmer today. Today at camp our skill focus was fielding. We ran many drills for both the infield and the outfield. The morning flew by and before we knew it, it was time for lunch.
It was very warm in the afternoon so the kids were tired but still did a great job. One our coaches was under the weather so he spent the afternoon in the shade resting. Please pray for a quick recovery for him. The afternoon was filled with breaks to give the kids the opportunity to rest and stay hydrated. The younger kids to a break from baseball by playing a game of kickball. They really enjoyed the game but I think what they enjoyed more was tackling the coaches as we were trying to run the bases. We finished up the day by playing a scrimmage with both age groups.
It’s amazing that three days are in the books. We are having a great time teaching baseball and building relationships with the kids. Please pray that these relationships would continue grow stronger over the next few days. We are excited to see what God has in store for us the rest of the week.
