Mexico Days 1+2

Gandalf the wise wizard from J.R.R. Tolkein’s The Hobbit speaks to his beloved little friend Bilbo Baggins before the hobbit sets out on a long and dangerous journey: “You’ll have a tale or two to tell when you come back.”
Bilbo: “Can you promise that I will come back?”
Gandalf: “No. And if you do, you will not be the same.”

My intent isn’t to frighten you about our prospects of returning 🙂 Rather, I want to stress our eager expectation for God to change us, the local churches and kids’ lives in Guadalajara through our co-working with Him on this trip!

Five of us there where who set out from Newark, NJ airport on Saturday morning. After an uneventful day in the air we landed in Guadalajara and joined the sixth member of our team. Praise the Lord, and thank you for praying!

This morning we attended church with the congregation we will be partnering with in soccer clinics and outreach over the next several days. It was uplifting to sing familiar tunes (though with unfamiliar words) such as How Great Thou Art with our Mexican brothers and sisters and to spend some time this afternoon alone as a team studying God’s word and sharing about the work He has done in our lives. Today we have dwelt on God’s word to Joshua to be very strong and courageous, serving Christ in confident faith. May you also find courage, boldness and peace in Him as you carry on your ministries for His kingdom at home.

Please continue to pray for us as we play our first match this evening and begin clinics tomorrow. Much love!
