Miami Update #1
The trip to Miami has gotten off to a great start! Currently, we are on the second day of our trip, and God has already opened the door for us to share the Gospel with multiple people and enjoy fellowship with members of the Church that we will be working with this upcoming week. This week we will be running a camp just like all the other camps that Push The Rock runs. The Church is very thankful for the ministry that is provided and hopes that they can come to the point where they can begin to run these camps on their own.
We arrived at the Push The Rock headquarters yesterday at 10:00 a.m. where we were able to get acquainted with each other and learn about the ministry we would be doing. From there, we drove to the Philadelphia airport to begin our travel to Miami. We were originally supposed to arrive in Nashville with a couple of hour layover in which we could eat dinner, but there was a storm in the area, causing the plane to land instead at the Louisville, KY airport. Fortunately, the storm in Nashville passed quickly enough that we could still fly there and make the connecting flight to Miami. If anyone on the team wanted anything to eat, they had to rush to grab it before we boarded the next plane!
Amazingly, God opened the doors for us to share the Gospel with many different people on the different flights and airports in which we were traveling. Many people asked about the organization we were working for, and the opportunities were used to share the mission of Push The Rock and about what we were hoping to accomplish during our time in Miami.
Today (Saturday) was our training day with the team. We met at the home of the pastor of the Church we would be ministering with this week for breakfast and to do our training for the day. This time provided a way for the team to open up to each other and share what their goals for the trip were. We were able to be encouraged by our team leader during the Scripture challenge, in which we had the opportunity to discuss many of the things we had learned during our study of the book of Philippians over the past month. We talked about finding “joy” in all circumstances, regardless of what was going on around us. This is the same type of joy Paul was referring to throughout his epistle!
We ended the day by relaxing at the beach in Miami. We were able to spend some time in the water and in fellowship with each other. We were all amazed by the lack of waves and the clearness of the water! The host family also brought us dinner to eat while we were at the beach, which was a delicious blessing. After spending time at the water, we walked across the bridge that overlooked the Miami skyline. Everyone was really excited to be able to see downtown Miami.
Tomorrow, we will be worshiping with the host Church. We will also be preparing for camp, which starts on Monday morning. Pray that the Lord brings in kids from the local community who would experience Christ’s love through our team. Pray for the team and all the workers of the camp, that we would have the wisdom to speak Truth to the children and love them the way Christ loves them.
“Only let your manner of life be worthy of the Gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the Gospel.” Philippians 1:27
