At the age of eight, Thiago’s father encouraged him to enroll in a tennis academy, and he soon fell in love with the sport. He played until the age of 18 in an attempt at a professional career. Thiago and Denise met when he was 20 and she was 16. Denise grew up playing sports and specifically played volleyball as a child. Denise had grown up in an evangelical home while Thiago had not. Thiago came to a saving knowledge of Christ just before their marriage. They now have two daughters, Beatriz and Rafaela. Sports is in the blood of their family. Beatriz represents the city in swimming, and Rafaela performs ballet.

In 2016, they met Daniel and Babi Stephan, who shared with them the AECA project. They immediately loved the idea of using sports to speak about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

At first, Thiago started volunteering on the weekends, and this only increased their desire to serve more and more. In 2018, they became full-time missionaries. Thiago is currently studying at the Word of Life seminar and is a physical education student at the nearby college. Denise has a degree in nutrition and is a specialist in food quality and safety.

“Sport is inclusive.  People from all walks of life, race and creed participate together. Sports are an excellent tool for life where we are not always the winners.”
